As Ireland’s national airline, Aer Lingus has long been woven into the moments that matter most to Irish fans. For this project, the brief was simple but meaningful: celebrate someone who had quietly contributed to the culture surrounding Irish rugby. The search led us to Mandy, a long-time staff member at Aviva Stadium whose connection to the venue stretches across generations. For more than two decades she has worked behind the scenes on match days, continuing a family tradition that began with her parents and now extends to her own children.
Our approach was to tell Mandy’s story as a genuine portrait of dedication to the game. We filmed intimate interviews at her home, where decades of photographs and memorabilia revealed a remarkable family history tied to the stadium. Her mother recalled being the first woman to work the gates there, a small but significant moment in the venue’s history. Sitting together around the table, three generations shared memories of match days, players they had known over the years, and the quiet pride of being part of the experience fans see only from the stands.
Production moved between Mandy’s home and the stadium itself. At Aviva we followed her through the spaces she knows best, capturing the rhythm of her work and the atmosphere of the ground on a typical day. The challenge was maintaining the authenticity of a documentary while protecting the project’s real purpose. Mandy believed the film was purely about her family’s contribution to the stadium. In reality, it was building toward something else entirely.
That moment came at the end of the final interview. Just as filming appeared to wrap, Aer Lingus cabin crew entered the room carrying a gift box filled with Irish rugby gear and tickets to Ireland v France in Paris. The reveal shifted the tone instantly. What had begun as a reflective documentary turned into a genuine, emotional surprise.
We continued filming as Mandy departed from Dublin Airport and boarded her flight to Paris, completing the story where Aer Lingus naturally belongs. The finished film blends personal history, sport, and a heartfelt reward for years of dedication. It resonated strongly online, reminding viewers that the spirit of rugby extends far beyond the pitch.
