Stripe works with thousands of entrepreneurial businesses, but behind every platform is a real story of people building something together. The Mary Mill film was part of an ongoing series created to highlight those stories. Set on a family farm, Mary Mill is run by a husband and wife alongside their four daughters, producing oats that move from field to finished product entirely within the rhythm of their daily lives. The aim of the film was to show how Stripe’s infrastructure quietly powers the business behind the scenes, allowing the family to focus on the work that matters most.
The creative approach centered on capturing the full cycle of their day. Mornings began in the fields as oats were harvested by combine harvester, before moving into the small mill and production space tucked into the farmyard where the grain was processed and packaged. Every stage involved the family working side by side. Rather than presenting the technology as the headline, the film focused on the human story. Stripe appeared naturally within that world, from the eldest daughter managing orders on her laptop to the seamless flow of the business online.
Keeping the production unobtrusive was essential. With a crew of six, the team worked carefully within the family’s routine, allowing real moments to unfold while maintaining a cinematic standard. The camera moved between the physical work of the farm and the quieter details of family life. One of the most memorable sequences came at the end of the day, when the family gathered in the garden at dusk, sitting around a fire after hours spent harvesting, milling, and packing together.
Post-production focused on preserving the warmth and authenticity of what had been captured on location. Natural textures, gentle pacing, and a considered grade helped bring cohesion to scenes that ranged from golden fields to the intimacy of the family kitchen. The finished two-to-three minute film presents Stripe not as a product demonstration, but as a quiet enabler of modern family businesses.
The result is a portrait of a company built on shared effort and shared values. By grounding the technology in the reality of daily work and family life, the film reflects how platforms like Stripe have become an essential foundation for a new generation of independent businesses.
