Working with Cricket Ireland and agency Owens DDB, the brief was to spotlight a generation of players reshaping the game while shining a light on those who will follow them. The film focuses on the Irish women’s team, capturing the commitment, focus, and quiet intensity behind the sport, while connecting their journey to the younger players already stepping onto the pitch.

The creative approach centred on momentum. Director Eilís Doherty built the piece around a fast, kinetic progression from training ground to match play, allowing the rhythm of preparation to drive the story. Early sequences lean into repetition and discipline. Batting drills, fielding practice, fitness work. As the tempo builds, the narrative opens out to reveal a second layer: young girls training alongside and learning from the players they look up to.

Filming demanded a balance between documentary authenticity and controlled, high-energy movement. Director of Photography Blaine Rennicks worked closely with the team to capture the speed and precision of cricket without interrupting the natural flow of training. The camera stays close to the action. Sweat, impact, movement. The result is a sense of immediacy that places the viewer directly inside the players’ world.

In post-production, pace became the defining tool. Sharp editorial transitions mirror the rhythm of drills and gameplay, gradually weaving together the senior squad and the next generation coming through. A custom score and sound design from Wastefellow pushes the film forward, building tension before opening into moments that highlight mentorship, confidence, and community.

The finished piece captures more than training or competition. It shows a culture being built in real time. Elite players pushing their limits while quietly creating space for the girls behind them to step forward with belief.
